"Cat library" rescue charity allows cats young and old to be checked out like books!

This is one of the most noble concepts in helping shelter cats. You can “check out” a cat for the day…just like a library book. That way people can go in, and give their selected cat some much needed love, and then they are returned back to the shelter. But, it also gives the people that “check them out” the chance to fall in love, and want to adopt them. In the end, the program is designed to eventually find permanent homes for shelter cats. But, in the process they receive much deserved love.

This is a really good idea, since compatibility with the home environment is really important when rehoming a cat. Things like dogs, kids and general disturbences are all very important considerations when homing a cat. This allows a potential adopter to see how well the cat gets on in their potential new home without having to make the commitment first and then having to reverse everything if it doesn't work out.

I find this to be a terrible idea. Animal shelters already allow adopted cats and dogs from said shelter to be brought back if it doesn't work out. Some people are wicked and care nothing for animals. Dogs and cats are SOLD, not only to pay back the cost put in to them but to make sure that the buyers don't mistreat and end up killing the pet. No one wants to kill a cat they paid $50 dollars for. A good idea in theory.

I'm not quite sure that all cats would like it. Having to constantly switch homes could take an ugly toll on some cats, not to mention that bad characters could also "check them out" as well.

Unfortunately, when there's a psycho that take a sick interest in them, there's not much that can be done to stop them even with current procedures. Thankfully, it's fairly rare and I try not to think about it.

In some situations, you have to think about it, because it happens and there's nothing we can do to stop it, but we can do what we can to prevent it.

I agree with this. Cats are very easily stressed out.

This is a poor concept in my opinion. Adopted cats and dogs from animal shelters can already be returned if the relationship does not work out. Some individuals are evil and do not care about animals. Dogs and cats are sold not merely to recoup their costs, but also to ensure that the purchasers do not abuse or murder the animal. No one wants to murder a cat for which they paid $50. In theory, it's a terrific concept.
