If you're a cat lover like myself, you probably knew that cats have been passengers on ships for thousands of years. However, you might be surprised to learn that they also served in the Navy.
That's right - the US navy began purchasing cats starting in the 19th century to curtail their vermin problem. These cats would often be dressed up in "uniforms", and even get a salary to pay for treats. Read more about it on National Geographic:
